About Data Centre Truth
Who we are
Data Centre Truth is an independent watchdog covering the real cost of the cloud. We investigate the land, water, electricity and noise impacts of data centres across the UK and US — and the communities fighting back.
Why we exist
Data centres are being built at record pace, driven by cloud computing and AI. Too often the conversation is dominated by one side: the investment, the jobs, the "digital future". The costs — water evaporated by cooling towers, strain on power grids, noise that never stops, farmland lost, and planning processes that favour applicants over residents — get far less attention.
We're here to balance that. We report the facts, document the planning battles, and give communities the tools to make their voices heard.
What we cover
- News: planning applications, approvals, protests and policy changes — UK and US.
- Guides: the facts on water, energy, noise and environmental impact, explained without jargon.
- Resources: practical toolkits for communities facing applications, including FOI templates.
Our stance
We're not anti-technology, and we're not anti-data centre. We're pro-transparency. We believe communities deserve honest answers about what gets built in their neighbourhoods — and that good outcomes happen when people are informed and organised.
Transparency
Data Centre Truth is part of the Brightfull Tech network of information sites. We are funded independently and don't take money from data centre developers or their suppliers. If that ever changes, we'll tell you.
